Avatar And The Hurt Locker Favorites In 82Nd Oscars Odds

Monday, May 10th, 2010

It looks as if the 2010 Academy Awards for the best Picture is either going to be “Avatar” or “The Hurt Locker” as they are the heavy betting favorites heading into Sunday Night’s Oscars odds. “Avatar” opened as an even money 1/1 bet while “The Hurt Locker” was an even bigger 20/27 favorite. The best “sleeper” plays would be either “Inglourious Basterds” at 9/1 or “Up in the Air” at 25/1.

Also on the board are “Precious” at 30/1, “The Blind Side” at 50/1, “A Serious Man,” “An Education,” and “Up” at 75/1. “District 9″ is the longshot at 100/1. Jeff Bridges was the prohibitive favorite to win Best Actor in Oscar odds at 1/10 for his role in “Crazy Heart.” George Clooney is the best underdog for Best Actor at 11/1 for “Up in the Air.” Also on the board for Best Actor at 14/1 are Jeremy Renner for “The Hurt Locker” and Morgan Freeman 12/1 for “Invictus.” Colin Firth rounds out the field at 13/1 for his role in “A Single Man.”

Best Actress may be a bit more competitive as Sandra Bullock is the favorite at 4/11 for her role in “The Blind Side.” The second choice is Meryl Streep at 9/4 for her role in “Julie and Julia.” Carey Mulligan makes for a decent value play at 10/1 for her role in “An Education.” Another decent underdog play would be Gabourey Sidibe for her role in “Precious” at 17/2. The longshot in Oscars odds is Helen Mirren at 40/1 for her role in “The Last Station.”

Best Director looks like a two man race between James Cameron at 3/1 for “Avatar” and the overwhelming favorite, Kathryn Bigelow, for “The Hurt Locker” at 1/5. Quentin Tarantino is at 18/1 for “Inglourious Basterds” while Jason Reitman is at 50/1 for “Up in the Air.” The longshot in Oscar odds is Lee Daniels for “Precious” at 60/1.
