30 Rock Seasons 1-3 DVD Boxset

Tina Fey’s 30 Rock has honed and refined it’s excruciating brand of “awkward comedy” during the last three years, and the award-winning show is still going strong.
Shows like Arrested Development and the stand-up of Late Night with Conan O’Brien helped build an audience for awkward humor over the last decade. The shift was a refreshing change from the mundane observations of Jerry Seinfeld and the crude physical comedy of cartoons like Family Guy. Awkward comedy began to flourish when Arrested Development aired on Fox in 2003, paving the way for shows like The Office. But The Office ain’t what it once was, as Michael Scott’s workplace antics have gone from blushably funny to old. So when The Office started to go bad and Arrested Development was cancelled, prospects for awkward comedy looked bleak.
30 Rock is keeping the genre alive. The comics of Saturday Night Live are experienced in self-deprecating humor, and Tina Fey (who plays Liz Lemon) is a pro. Lemon does not go to the gym and doesn’t care if anyone knows. She loves her Slanket and, according to her boss Jack Donaghy, is the closest thing to a “bro” in the office. As head honcho of the fictional show TGS with Tracy Jordan, she’s never afraid to say exactly what pops into her head: “Hey, nerds! Guess who has two thumbs, speaks limited French, and hasn’t cried once today. This moi!” In moments like that, 30 Rock sets the standard for awkward humor, while also raising the bar for TV comedy.
